Olivia Chen

Here we congratulate Olivia Chen on being admitted with outstanding results to her ideal universities: RISD (Rhode Island School of Design), NYU (New York University), UCSD (University of California, San Diego), and other institutions.

Olivia has studied painting with Teacher Zhou since childhood, and she has persevered, worked hard, and applied herself diligently. Olivia has a solid foundation in form and drawing, as well as rich imagination and creativity. In Olivia’s paintings, we can see a perfect representation that combines an abstract form of beauty with a realistic representational approach. Her colors are rich and flowing—both realistic and abstract—full of allegory and virtuality, leaving the audience ample room for imagination.

I also often remind students that the truth we seek to express is different from the truth captured by a camera. It is truth that has been carefully observed, carefully considered, stripped of the false and retaining the true, distilled to its essence, and elevated. This year, three students from our school were admitted to the Rhode Island School of Design. Although the three students’ styles of form and drawing are very different, they share one thing in common: while pursuing beauty, they pay even more attention to cultivating and improving their own inner refinement.

Below I am posting some of Olivia’s paintings. I hope students will learn from one another and make progress together.

在这里我们祝贺Olivia Chen同学以优异的成绩考入理想大学，考入RISD(罗德𡷊设计学院，NYU(纽约大学)，UCSD(加州大学圣地亞哥分校）等院校。Olivia自幼跟随周老师学习绘画，而且坚持不懈，努力学习。Olivia有着坚实的造型基本功，和丰富的想像力和创造力，在Oliver的绘画中我们可以看到一种抽象美的表现形式和真实的再现手法相结合的一种完美的再现。色彩丰富而又流动，即真实而又抽象，充满一种寓意感和虚拟感，给观众于充分想象的空间。我也常常告诫学生们，我们所要表达的真实，不同于照像机中的真实。而是经过我们认真观察，认真思考，去伪存真，取其精华，经过提升的真实。今年我们学校有三位学生考入罗德岛艺术学院，尽管三位学生的造型风格大为不同，但有一点是共同的，及在追求美的同时，更加注重自身修养的培养和提高。下面发一些Oliver的绘画创作，望同学们相互学习，共同进步。
